Inspired were appointed in June 2017 to assist our client with the strategic enhancement of their home, where there was a particular desire to enhance ground floor usable daytime space and also to provide a new master bedroom suite, all within a spatially restricted plot.
Sitting neatly within existing boundaries and now enjoying views into a new private Courtyard, our proposal for extension of our client’s home would, provide a spacious ground floor enhancement including new kitchen and dining spaces, in turn releasing existing accommodation to provide a volumous loungeroom and snug. At First Floor level our proposal offered a Master Bedroom along with a new Ensuite shower room creating a new suite, providing a welcome enhancement to existing sleeping accommodations and importantly, easing the constraints arising at domestic pinch points at times of high demand.
Externally, our proposal would present as a contemporary addition to a tradition property, complying importantly with the Local Plan by time dating the addition so that the new and old would be clearly defined. Careful use of colour and materials would allow the extension to extend to boundaries whilst presenting subservience, the use of slate hanging on walls of the primary elevation would appear as shadow, whilst timber cladding along a private drive elevation would provide resilience and swift recovery in the event of a light wing mirror knock or graze.
Dark coloured power coated windows would provide thermal resilience enhancing the margin between the new and old, and careful consideration in the shaping adjoining boundaries would provide opportunity for a courtyard, sufficient in size for seating and importantly, providing privacy separation for the ground floor accommodations whilst they are enjoying open door ventilation…
Statutory consent was obtained on our client’s behalf in late 2017 and building works progressed with a Local General Builder through the spring and early summer of 2018.
