Project brief

Located in the heart of Bath, this Grade I listed Georgian hotel has undergone an extensive refurbishment, carefully balancing the requirements of a modern hospitality setting with the character and significance of the historic building. The property has a rich history, including a stay by William Wordsworth at No. 9 in 1841, making the sensitive treatment of its historic fabric an important consideration throughout the project. The refurbishment sought to breathe new life into the hotel, upgrading and enhancing the accommodation while retaining the architectural character that makes the building so distinctive. As with any project involving a building of this age and significance, the works presented a number of challenges along the way, requiring a collaborative and considered approach from the client, consultants and wider project team.

Following 14 months of refurbishment works on site, the completed hotel now provides 46 bedrooms alongside a new three-bedroom courtyard extension. The works involved a comprehensive refurbishment throughout the property, combining the building’s Georgian heritage with a fresh, contemporary finish suitable for its next chapter as a modern hotel.

Inspired Partnership provided Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Contract Administration and CDM Principal Designer services, working closely with the client and wider project team throughout the delivery of the scheme. The result is a significant transformation of an important Grade I listed building, delivered with careful consideration for its heritage, character and future use.
